This site is a resource for students, teachers, parents, and community members interested in learning about our 1-to-1 Chromebook pilot in Mrs. Elliott's Grade 4 classroom and GoogleApps EDU initiative for Grades 4-6 for the 2013-2014 academic year.
What is a Chromebook? A Chromebook is a laptop that uses the Chrome OS (operating system). It is a web browser system that automatically updates itself. Students have immediate access to the GoogleApps productivity suite and Chrome Store Apps. All programs on the Chromebook actually live on the web so there is no installation of traditional computer programs or danger from computer viruses! Please view the videos on the right. These short clips do a great job explaining these unique devices. Implementation Plan Our vision is for students to have access to the digital tools and learning environments that they will need to succeed at the middle/high school level and beyond. As we move from the industrial age to an economy based on innovation and service, development of 21st Century Skills is more important than ever. This is especially true when we consider that "the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004! Schools today are faced with preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist..using technologies that haven't been invented...in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet!" Please view the video below to understand the massive shift that is occurring:Preparing for the Future: The 4C's of 21st Century Skills: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking Digital Citizenship Skills As students gain greater access to technology both at home and school, an essential component of instruction is the Digital Citizenship Curriculum. Since 2009, students receive training in the Appropriate Use of Technology to ensure that they understand the rules and responsibilities for technology at school. Further training is incorporated when new technologies are introduced. We use the Digital Literacy and Citizenship Curriculum from CommonSense Media.
